LOVE IT? SHARE IT.
If you haven’t already heard the phrase “living la dolce vita”, or have just recently stumbled upon the mantra and are scrambling to adopt a lifestyle as delicious, easy-going, and pleasurable as the dolce vita suggests, don’t worry, I too, am years late to living my most decadent, Italian-inspired life. While the phrase “dolce vita” translates, literally, to “sweet life”, the lifestyle corner of our WorldWideWeb is rich with interpretations of what constitutes a “vita” worth lusting for. Everyone wants in, and everyone gets in, because the mantra’s only rule is that there are no rules, just the non-negotiable desire to savor life with contentment and ease. Here are 8 ways you, too, can live la dolce vita.
01.
Indulge A favorite quote of mine says, “the longest relationship you will ever have is with yourself, why aren’t you in love yet?” That’s exactly what the sweet life calls for, a kind, unwavering love for self nourished through the art of indulgence. To indulge is to reward, whenever, and however, with the strong belief that there can be no regrets when it comes to taking care of you. La dolce vita means eating that 4th slice of Lemon Glazed Poppy Seed Cake, buying the springtime dress you’ve been eyeing through a boutique window, or taking the sick day you've convinced yourself you “never want to use.” Of course, everything has its limits, but la dolce vita asks that you not overcomplicate the art of feeling good. 02. Slow Down (and log off) Gone are the days when we stopped to ask ourselves “what’s the big rush?”, namely because the answer invokes in us an even stronger sense of feeling behind. You no longer need a parent to compare you to “David’s son”, who’s now “CEO of a solar company and engaged to a beautiful bride”, social media lectures you everyday. La dolce vita means slowing down, in everything you do. It’s understanding that with such a short life, you have time. It's getting out of bed and rotating your feet before letting them hit the ground, brushing your teeth, slowly, and standing by the window as if to say “hello, Mr. Sun.” It’ll take time to be consistent: eating slow, bathing slow, drinking slower; But, you’ll find that you're seeing more, feeling more, and being more present. |

Bike Often, Walk Even More
Trust me, you'll feel great.
04.
Paint
Fact: there was a Picasso in all of us at age 4. La dolce vita wants the artist in you to break free (again). It doesn't have to be great, or even good, it just has to be paint.

Read for pleasure
Find a book, and a comfortable place, and travel without ever moving a muscle.
06.
Dress well
Learn the art of dressing well everywhere you go, and love it unconditionally. La dolce vita means looking your best through all four seasons. Tip: invest in those summer linens and never negotiate fine wool in the winter. It won't hurt you to look fabulous.
07.
Stop and smell the roses (literally)
08.
Laugh
Because there are far too many reasons not to. Throw on your favorite comedy, pour yourself an aperol spritz, and tuck in. La dolce vita wants you to know that you can’t fix the world in one day, and that you don’t have to. Promenading your way through life, with love, is enough.
