I finally purchased a “basic white tee”, and it’s perfect. I must say, this piece was anything but easy to find. These days, every brand carries a classic, white shirt in their collection, and they all claim to make the best one. From the pristine, jersey crewneck by Ralph Lauren, to the Pima cotton, “essential” top by Vince, the modern woman has an endless selection of basic, white tees (all convincingly white, all convincingly basic) to choose from. Cue the stress panic! Options are great - when you're wine tasting. Alas, this was far from an evening of swishing and sipping Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc.
on the hunt at bloomies
The first step was knowing my style. When it comes to tops, I am head over heels for coverage. Anything see-through just won’t do. I needed something between thick and thin, a fabric in the happy middle. Something loose, but not oversized. A soft, but sturdy, fabric to stand the test of time. And please, please, no V-necks! Next, I narrowed an extensive online search down to three options: The Slub Tee by Rag & Bone, The Crewneck by Ralph Lauren, and The Essential Tee by Vince. Last on my agenda was a trip to Bloomies (Bloomingdales), where I would try-on my picks and leave with an iconic brown bag: a symbol of success. Drum roll please! The Slub Tee by Rag & Bone instantly won me over. A Pima cotton beauty in bright white with signature railroad stitch detailing at the body. It tots a chic amount of breathing room with a chance to size up for a more boyish look. I'm proud to say the search is over, i'll be fashioned in a Slub for years to come.
